Templates take the time to build, and it’s easy to wonder whether they are worth the investment. The answer: absolutely. Editing a template takes far less time than formatting some thing from scratch. It’s the difference between copying and pasting some text, or retyping it.
That is only one advantage: Using a template means you’re not as likely to leave out key info, also. By way of example, if you need to send freelance authors a contributor arrangement, changing a standard contract template (instead of composing a new contract every time) guarantees you won’t leave out that crucial clause about owning the content once you’ve paid for it.
Templates also guarantee consistency. You send investors or customers regular project updates. With a template, you understand the upgrade will have the formatting, design, and arrangement.
How to Create Great Templates
Not many templates are created equal–and a few things do not require a template. Here are a couple of tips to follow.
First, templates should be comprehensive. So err on the side of adding rather than too small, it’s more easy to delete info than add it in.
Imagine you are developing a template of your resume. You’d want to list facts about your duties and achievements, and that means you are going to have.
You can always delete notes on, but if it’s not in the template you may forget it in the final version.
